Tip of the Day:  Beef, Mushrooms & Onion Goodness!

I love beef, just about any way you can cook it except rare.  Yuck! Rare meat grosses me out seriously!

Anyway, I whipped up a tasty little dish that my hubby came into the kitchen when done and said “man that was really tasty and started eating more out of the bowl”.  Love when he loves something new :)

So I had a Sirloin Tip Steak in the freezer and remember my daddy taking me out to Ponderosa weekly right after parents got a divorce.  That was wonderful.  I always got the same dinner with the salad bar.  I loved the Sirloin tips with mushrooms.  So I did some looking online and found mostly recipes with wine.  Well I’m not a wine drinker nor am I am wine cooker, so I passed on all those.  But I found a couple that I could take info from both to create my own.  Here is what I came up with.

  • Stainless steel frying pan (my new favorite :) )
  • 1 pound of beef sirloin steak
  • 2-3 Tbsp butter
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Teriyaki sauce
  • 1/2 large white onion, cut into little square chunks (I love onions and will add a whole onion next time)
  • 1 lg can of mushrooms drained
  • Garlic salt
  • Pepper

Cut beef into 1″ cubes.  In medium high heat frying pan melt butter and add beef.  Add garlic salt (I have a grinder with garlic flakes and sea salt that is just yummy, found in the dollar section of Big V Country Mart) and pepper to taste.   Brown beef on all sides until nice and brown and meat is cooked to your liking, about 8-10 minutes for me.  Remove beef and put in a bowl.

Gently add beef broth as it will sizzle like mad.  Add Worcestershire & Teriyaki sauce, onions & mushrooms.  Simmer on medium high, stirring to scrap brown beef bits off of bottom of pan.  This is where the stainless steel frying pan is awesome, you get some great browning flavor.  Cook the onion & mushroom mixture until about half of the water has evaporated and the onions are just getting tender.  You don’t want mushy onions or too crispy, stir to cook onions evenly.

When mushroom & onion mixture is ready simply pour over the beef.

You may add this to the top of rice or noodles if you like to make a larger meal but we ate it as is with our other sides.

Mmmmm, this is very delicious you may want to go back for seconds……..

Enjoy!

OK I'm hungry now!
Being a man that loves to cook and have since I was a young teen Your Worcestershire sauce and Teriyaki sauce combo was a good call the replace the wine. Personally I like the wine but that is personal preference. You really have some great things for people to enjoy here that's why I love coming over here.

I have checked our your work also Great job with the alt text on your image, super tags. Now you just need a couple links so through it in the blog co-op and you will have that maybe some traffic also. Recipes are something people love and are searched often a great source of traffic from some great people!

Hey I don't want to be a bug in your ear :) I sound like a pest…. hee hee. You'll have to try this recipe and let me know. Obviously, it isn't nearly as good as Ponderosa but made from home was pretty darned tasty.

PS I got your comment so maybe you don't have to log in. I will have to go see what you see and fix any possible bugs here. I am using a new comment thingy :)

Hi Fly! My daughter worked at Ponderosa in Missouri for two years before we relocated. I always had the beef tips too! I don't care for rare meat either so steak tips are usually no fail when eating at a steak house. This looks geat! I'm a pretty good cook, but I never make beef tips so I'm glad you put the bug in my ear – or was that a fly in my ear? ;o) Canine Crusader, from Rescue of a Stray Dog, not sure what's up, your blog won't let me log in to post.
