YUMMO!!! Eats….

What is your favorite food at Thanksgiving?  And no you cannot say the whole feast.

My favorite Thanksgiving treat is a funny little tradition for myself and no one else.   I always make candied yams (not with marshmallows) but that’s not my favorite food.  I actually like to dip my turkey (white or dark doesn’t matter) into the candied coating the yams cook in.  Something about it makes me think of all the years I have been eating turkey and candied yams and all the food, food, food…..  Sweet turkey then is what it becomes.

Funny, but Thanksgiving has even become my favorite holiday.  It used to be Christmas but because we are pretty well forced to always travel to see all 3 sets of parents it totally takes the fun out of Christmas.  But well that’s a whole other story.  So Thanksgiving and my home and oodles of food all throughout the kitchen with a few family members and I am a happy camper all day.

Now I am a die-hard turkey stuffer.  All this nonsense about food poisoning because people stuff their turkeys is B.S.  I have been stuffing my turkey for 20 years and before that my mother stuffed her turkey.  All I can say is maybe those people are over stuffing their turkry or are not cooking their turkeys properly or long enough for that matter, I don’t know, but we never have had a problem with it.  I’ve tried the ham at Thanksgiving and while I love ham it just wasn’t the same. Besides, who doesn’t love turkey leftovers for several days?  We make turkey turnovers (entire family favorite), turkey a-la-king, turkey sandwiches and just plain turkey with all the fixin’s.  We have adopted additional Thanksgiving foods just because our family has grown and some of the folks don’t care for our regular fare so we add something they like and well it just becomes so much food that it’s fun to make everyone take home packages for later.

Now at this moment I would like to express my many, many thanks that our family is fortunate to have a feast and hope that everyone this year is able to spend time and eat a lovely meal with people who care.

Please everyone, remember to donate to your local charities so that everyone may enjoy a warm and loving meal.

Take care and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Oh I understand about the diet thing. While I don’t diet and I am light weight every single little pound I gain goes to my belly/waist and at my size well I don’t want to look like an apple. So I do eat what I want but have learned moderation, that’s a tough one too because as a kid I didn’t have to moderate anything had a high matabolism, but not anymore :(

So enjoy Thanksgiving and birthday cake, hope its the butter cream icing Mmmmmmm.

A moist southern cornbread dressing or sweet potato casserole. Those are things I don’t make during the year and I always want. I make turkey at other times in the year. This year my son and I are dieting so I’ve decided no traditional green bean casserole, fried green beans instead and maybe a Brussel sprout recipe I saw on Food TV. I’ll make the potatoes, white and sweet, but we won’t eat them. We’ll still enjoy dinner because I’ll have options. I’m not 80 lbs, if I was I would eat everything. My daughters birthday is a few days later so I need to save my cheat day for her cake. lol

I think my favorite is the Double Layer Pumpkin pie as it the only time I make it for Thanksgiving. Now don’t get me wrong I love all the fixings and the leftovers. But the pie is so yummy!!
