We want to start a non-profit organization.

Well hubby and I could not be more alike.  We really are growing together as we get older, it’s amazing.  Let me back up a minute and explain.

Today, I woke up with an overwhelming desire to do something special for the holiday season.  I want to donate some of my time to charity and help those have a wonderful holiday meal and good company.  I told my hubby about this desire and told him “I guess I am feeling so blessed at this moment I need to share some love with others”.  He chuckled and said “that’s funny because remember I told you a few months back I wanted to do something like that too”.  He is feeling the same way I am.

I remember our conversation we had and didn’t really know if he was serious.  He has suffered depression for a couple of years now and asked me around the same time we had this conversation if I thought he was having a midlife crisis.  I told him “no, but that I think he is feeling there has to me more to life than him just plodding off to a job he hates”.  He agreed and even quoted that back to me recently.  Guess I hit home with that analysis.

So here we are talking about what both of us want to do but how the heck are we going to do it.  He works way too many hours to do it on the side so it will have to be an all or nothing for him.  I told him I didn’t know much about non-profit rules but that I would do some research and learn for us both.  We both agreed we would use the vacant land we purchased a year ago.  We could do a lot on 18 acres.  But WHAT would we do on it is the question.

So friends I am here today asking you for ideas and input as well as guidance on the learning process.  If anyone of my blog friends have ideas or could tell me how to learn about the process, I am ALL ears, I would greatly appreciate any and all feedback on this endeavor.

My greatest gift I could give my hubby besides our beautiful daughter and my unending love for him would be to help him live a more fulfilling life.

This truly is a great idea! I am only 28 years old and have been feeling that there must be more to life than just working. Kudos to you and your husband for recognizing this and more importantly for acting on it. Changing your life is not an easy thing but the rewards could be huge.

I think before you can start your non-profit organization you and your hubby need to sit down and brainstorm. What are your interests? How can this passion be used to create a worthwhile non-profit organization. Remember if you plan on taking this new step in your life you will want to enjoy the work you are doing. Best of luck and please keep us posted!

Oh we hope so, thanks for the vote of confidence.

Yes, good idea but we will have to check lots of local communities because the land is located in rural America :) It is a great location though directly off the interstate so will have easy access but like I said it is far out away from the big cities.

Thanks for the visit and ideas, we need all the help we can get and would welcome help from others.

wow…what a great endeavor you have in mind!!! just from thinking about it, I can sense that you’ll be able to achieve a lot.

How I wish I have the resources like yours!

I think the first thing that you can do is to check your local community what is needed and get in touch with any charity group to get a feedback for your plans.
