Our driveway on “crack”!

Well our driveway finally bit it after a long and hard snowy winter.

With all the ice and snow melting it has virtually made all gravel driveways in this area a nightmare.  Ours included.

Woke up late Wednesday to see that our trash cans had mysteriously moved from up by our garage all the way done to the mailbox at the street.  No they didn’t get blown away or roll down the driveway, our friendly trash man had to have walked up to get them and and carry them down the driveway to empty them into the truck.  How do I know for sure?  Well the sunken tire marks where a clear indication that the trash truck sunk in our driveway and couldn’t go any further.

Driveway Rut

The trash truck sunk so deep you can see the roots of the large tree, that is now dead, below the gravel.

So what happens when someone like the UPS man pulls partially into your driveway when you are expecting a package?  Well they simply pull back out and zoom off to our local Post office to drop off our package there.  The post office then delivers our package the next day in our mailbox.  Woo Hoo!  I have twice received a package via USPS from UPS.  A new driver at UPS couldn’t locate our house so simply took the package to the post office.  Works for me, I don’t really care who delivers my stuff as long as I get it safe and sound.

So now what do we do?  We have to call the gravel man.  But the gravel man doesn’t feel comfortable driving up our driveway full of gravel with the sunken rut so we get a teeny delivery to fill in the rut so they can come back and give us a full driveway full of gravel.  Our job now is to spread the gravel a little better but heck the gravel man did an awesome job and I got him on camera.

I’m then entertained watching him go back and forth, back and forth in an attempt to squish some of the gravel down, funny because it must be a man thing because my hubby does this with the snow in the driveway just like this man is doing.

As you can see I am easily amused today on this cold and windy day.  But I am also very saddened by the object in my ditch.  The object in my ditch happens to be one of the lovely critters we enjoy seeing every week.

Dead deer in our ditch

This poor dear must have gotten hit during the night because he/she was not there the night before.  We walk our dog “Tinker” every night down the driveway, it is something she looks forward too.  It may be 11pm or it may be 1am.  Whatever time I go to bed and she needs to pee and take her walk we go.

So I called MODOT to come get the deer, poor thing. Really bums me out.  But on a happy note I got to see our family of 6 deer late this morning.  About 11:30am they were hanging out in the back behind our boat.  Tinker hadn’t seen them yet so I watched the buck as he watched me.  The he snorted and his little family trotted with him to the corner of the fence and one by one they all leaped over the fence in a gracefull moment.  They weren’t running but just cruisin’ over the fence then they walked along the fence stopped and stared at me some more.  I spent 15 minutes mesmerized by this family of deer.  And damnit I didn’t have my camera because I was barely awake taking the dog potty.  I’m gonna have to start sleeping with my camera or something.

Anyhoo, that’s all I have to share for now.  I will post some more tomorrow.

Happy Friday!

Investment, we are the great Mid-West! Smack in the middle of rural country we are. Oh you should see the fall, it’s AWESOME here! And the sunsets are too die for. If I could just leave out old man Winter it would be perfect. Spring is refreshing and the crickets and such are already clicking away around everyone’s ponds. The sound is magical and makes you long for a weekend camping with nothing but nature and good food :)

Come back and see me soon.

Wow! I love the area you live in! Mid-West or East Coast right? Over here in California, we never get true seasons so that picture of your house looks beautiful…Unfortunately we don’t get snow either in Los Angeles but fortunately we don’t have to deal with the harsh winters.
