There’s something about camping that keeps many people coming back. For everyone that something is different. For me, the bonding and great times kept me going back. Well, that and the perfect balance of socialization. I had enough time that I could spend admiring the scenery in which I’m surrounded. Yet, I could always go and be with the amazing people that I encountered while camping.
There are special moments for the traditional campers. These are those individuals who camp almost every weekend until Labor Day weekend rolls around. Girls find their summer loves and bid farewell, promising to keep in touch. Adults make bonds that for four months on the weekends they can meet up and escape the demanding life that awaits them at home.
For me, those special times were precious. I still can’t give up s’mores to this day after eating a dozen or more by the campfire. I still hum the tunes to my favorite campfire songs. There’s nothing better than the feel and the smell of a nice high rising campfire.
There are parts of camping that only a true camper can laugh at. The first time camper will more than likely find these things aggravating. Pitching a tent is among one of the most nerve racking parts to camping and almost all of us hardcore campers can remember the pain and agony of just how our first experience was. That’s why we can laugh at it. While we put it up, take it down; the tasks of setting up camp can be challenging, but this is where we get our stories that we tell year after year and never tire of.
There are just certain things that every camping extravaganza must have to have. I’ve already mentioned the one thing that many people feel is a must have, the gooey sweet tasting s’mores. Kids love them and who am I kidding, adults do too! Our favorites for dinner though were always the quick and simple things like huge pots of soups or quick roasted hot dogs. You can’t beat great foods nor could you beat the wonderful memories you create.
