UPDATE: for those of you who cannot see the poll in the right hand side column here is a direct link. I apologize, I could see it and thought others could too, will work on it. Till then here you go: http://www.sodahead.com/business/women-what-chore-do-you-absolutely-hate-doing-and-try-to-avoid-or-what-until-the-last-minute-to-do/question-736497/
I was having a moment and decided to add a poll to my blog. I had just posted my poll at sodahead and darned within 5 minutes I am already feeling the backlash so I guess I will explain myself, sheesh!
I was cleaning the house, whole house, dishes, laundry you name it. And tomorrow I will be doing the grocery shopping for Thanksgiving. Now anyone that knows me “knows me” knows I hate shopping of any kind the most and dishes run a close second. I hate shopping!!! Do other women feel the same about shopping?
Now I posted the question to women. Why? Because I am a women and at the moment of my dread of having to go shopping tomorrow I wanted to know if OTHER WOMEN felt the same way I do. I wanted to know if I was a “normal” women so to speak. It has nothing to do with me being sexist. However, in my household the chores are separated in the so called “old fashioned types” as one poll taker commented.
So let me tell you why our chores are divided the way they are.
- I work from home. I have worked sense I was 16 even after our child. It is easier for me to do all the “women chores” as I am at home or can run around town as needed as hubby works 5-6 days a week.
- I am a little petite thing. I am 4′ 9 1/2″ and a whopping 80lbs. Does anyone here really expect me to do the “man chores”. Seriously, I know my limits on what I can an can not do.
- I cannot do the heavy stuff that bigger women or men do (such as lawn mowing or fixing cars) so I only gave answers for the things I can do and usually do.
So before anyone goes judging me on a poll I put up It would be nice if someone actually thought a minute that there may be a reason. At the moment I put up the poll I did not care what men may or may not do in the household cause I am not a man and don’t think like a man. I simply wanted a women’s opinion. Seemed innocent enough to me but I guess not.
Oh and just for reference I used the “man chores” and “women chores” because that’s how a commenter put it. And in all honesty I think many households do still have the chores separated that way but I recognize that some families are lucky in that they can share all kinds of things and that their “chore” list is not based on size as mine is, period!
Thanks for reading my rant and taking the poll.

Yes I agree, sheesh too seriously. I was having a moment and wanted some validation that well my chores are a bummer!! I would love to have a maid too and at least a male maid would be easy on the eyes
*wink*
Oh WOO HOO! My first award. Oh thank you Staci you made my day, and now I am being serious
I am so enjoying my blog….
People take life and blogging way too seriously if they’re reading that much into a poll. In my case, I hate dishes. It has nothing to do with gender roles. It has to do with the fact that I’m single, so unless I can teach the dogs to wash dishes–don’t think I haven’t tried–they, the laundry, and every other chore in my house–womanly, manly, or otherwise–won’t get done. I have to do them. I have no choice.
Do I consider that sexist? No. I just consider it too poor to hire a maid. (And yes, that could be a male maid.)
On a different note, I have given you a blog award on my blog. Stop by when you get the chance.

Posted link on website since there seems to be a problem.
Oh I am here to tell ya you can buy food online. If I remember the site I will send it to ya, hee hee. I think it is an online grocery store.
Now imagining you with all those pooches you couldn’t be my size cause they would pull you over or knock you down. Hence my little Maltese, and that I have allergies
Yep, my girl friend is 6′ even and she is a car junky and does all the car stuff herself but she’s had rotten luck in love so well she’s doing it all, poor thing.
My hubby is old fashioned and does enjoy me being home. He says my job is to take care of him, keep him sane and all the things that go with loving him. I used to work outside the home full-time, then went to part-time and now I work for myself. This has been a good arraingment in our family because I was home while our daughter was in high school and I was there for her. And our house is a night house. He has worked the 2nd shift for 27 years and he is only 44. So me working day shift was tooooooo hard, never saw him.
Anyway, thanks for stepping in my blog today. Have a good night.
Yep, I find myself still tending to our 23 year old daughter who has moved in with her fiance. Momma is still needed I guess
So I don’t see retirement in that aspect. Funny thing is I am a girl, but I am more a tomboy. Grew up a happy tomboy and well never got very lady like I suppose. I hate dresses but that is more because I hate how they look on me. But hubby loves me as I am and that’s all that matters
Thanks for visiting.
Yes I agree if hubby is with me than I don’t really realize I am shopping, but that is rare because he works nights 4pm – 5am.
Hey but we have had fun hanging out at all night Wal-Mart’s but I’m here to tell ya at the wee hours of the morning expect to be followed around the store like you are a thief if you swing by the electronics. It was funny, we started acting stupid at that point just cause we were being followed. It was like a 2am, we’re bored so lets go hang out at Wally World, kind of moment. We did actually buy a few things.
Oh that brought back memories
wash his clothes! LOL I type whats in my head I guess.
Send me the poll link, want to see it.

Where is this poll? I don’t see it. Yes., after too many years of shopping, I now hate it too. I prefer to sit at my computer and shop online, although we can’t get food that way. I’m lucky, my husband likes to shop so he goes every Sunday and shops for the week. Saves us money because he’ll only get whats on the list, HOWEVER we argue because he doesn’t pay attention and will often times forget something on the list or buy something that I have never bought before. Chores? I’m a big girl and I was raised where a man does certain things and a woman does certain things. If a woman wants to change a tire, good for her, more power to these ladies, but I’m not. Why? Because I choose not to, but I’ll wash his close, cook, and keep a nice clean home. I painted our entire home, scraped, sanded, and painted one summer, not anyomore. So I know how to work hard if I choose too.

Hi fly (sorry I cannot see your name under your post) Anyway, This is what we call gender roles. You can reverse this role is you want that if this society of ours will become matriarchal in nature. I have my masters in gender studies, yet I still have to stay at home and tend to my growing children (regreted why I study gender studies hahahah!)…. if there is an option to resign from motherhood I could have done it long time ago …. hahahahah!

Well, I guess all men would love to have a woman in their life who hates shopping
Being a woman, your dislike for shopping is perhaps different but what I believe to be absolutely & perfectly normal (and perhaps an indication of a healthy state of mind!). I personally neither hate nor go crazy over shopping. Occasionally (that is at the most once per month), however, I do enjoy shopping if my husband is with me as I enjoy doing things with him.
